REMEMBERING TO REMEMBER. SAFETY PLANNING / HOME CARE BRAIN INJURY AWARENESS "Preventing home fires is important for everyone, but it's especially important for individuals with brain injuries. Brain injuries can cause a range of challenges, including cognitive impairment, physical impairment, and behavioral changes. These challenges can make it difficult for individuals to remember to turn off appliances, handle flammable materials safely, or maneuver around the home. To prevent home fires, it's important to take steps such as installing smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, creating and practicing an emergency evacuation plan, providing training on fire safety, and supervising the individual with brain injury when they're handling fire or using equipment. Additionally, having a professional assess the home for fire hazards, making recommendations for safety improvements, and installing assistive technology such as alarms and reminder systems can help. A support system of family members, caregivers, and professionals can also help with the identification and management of these challenges." #braininjuryawareness #homefiresafety #safety #homehealthcare #tbisurvivor #family ABI Resources Connecticut home-based supported living and CT community care.
