By using the AC adapter (which plugs into the alarm box) you will use less batteries over the life of the product. But keep a battery in the alarm as a back up for safety reasons. Manufacturer warranties this system for 1 year. The term 'Long Term' is an industry term used in Nursing Homes where the 1 year pad is the longest term of warranty available for a pad. Although your pad and alarm may last much longer than the warranty period, the manufacturer suggests pad replacement after a year, (contact seller for more information).
